I’ve been thinking a lot about presidents these days, what with all the events that’ve been inundating the news cycle, from a near assassination of Donald Trump to the Republican convention to the withdrawal of Joe Biden from the presidential race and the ascension of Kamala Harris as the presumptive Democratic nominee. And all with an election coming up in a little over three months that many rightly see as consequential for the future of American democracy.
Anyway, wondering what Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln might be thinking about our era. So it seemed like a good time for a photo of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
By the way, I also recently saw (for the second time) with my kids the movie National Treasure: Books of Secrets, which is partially filmed at Mount Rushmore. It’s from 2007 and not quite as good perhaps as the first National Treasure movie, but still fun. The movie alludes to an unknown room behind the presidential faces at Rushmore, which holds great secrets and treasures. Interestingly, there actually is a room carved into the rocks there (not open to visitors), a Hall of Records that contains information on how the faces were carved and why these presidents were chosen.
