Baseball is back. So let’s commemorate the first week of games with a photo of one of the great places to see a baseball game, Fenway Park.
And if you want a connection to history or presidential politics, well, we have that too...
The first game played at Fenway Park was on April 20, 1912. That day, the first pitch was thrown out by the Mayor of Boston, a big Red Sox fan by the name of John “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald who was also a member of the team’s famed Royal Rooters fan club.
Two years after Fenway opened, Honey Fitz’ oldest daughter, Rose, married a local banker by the name of Joseph Kennedy. Joseph and Rose Kennedy, of course, then famously raised a large family and a political dynasty. So yes, the inaugural first pitch at Fenway Park was thrown out by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s grandfather.
